Digital “fingerprints” could be used to help police find and remove child abuse images from the internet.
The technology, called F1, creates a unique digital imprint of offending video clips.
The print can then be used to identify copies and partial copies of the clip anywhere online, making it easier for law enforcement officials to remove.
The technology was developed by British firm Friend MTS, and has now been donated to the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (Icmec).
Company founder Jonathan Friend said: “Once a video is fingerprinted, F1 can efficiently and reliably identify copies or partial copies wherever they are encountered, saving law enforcement valuable time and enabling online services to filter and block the distribution of this egregious material.”
